European wildlife is threatened like never before, but in the Carpathian Mountains it has found its last great refuge.

Home to Europe's most extensive primeval forests and the continent's largest populations of bears, wolves and lynx, the Carpathians are a stronghold of biodiversity.

Follow the lives of this remarkable wildlife over the course of a year to reveal how each species is connected to the wider ecosystem. Together, they sustain a landscape that protects biodiversity, stores carbon and safeguards life-giving water, making the Carpathians one of Europe's most vital natural treasures.
